HIPBONE, also known as Sebastian Mårtensson, started playing the piano at age six and from that point on he knew what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. During his musical journey, he’s explored plenty of instruments such as drums, bass, guitar, accordion and upright bass.

“I always felt the need to know how to play all of these instruments by myself, being quite an active kid, I figured it’d be easier to just learn what I wanted to have for a song. Which in the end pretty much resulted in me being able to play pretty much what I wanted when I wanted it.”

Today he lives in Malmö, Sweden, a city rich in culture, jazz, soul and hiphop. He considers Malmö an excellent starting point for hidden talents and songwriting, with Copenhagen just around the corner for even greater scenes and venues.

“Living here, I’ve met so, so many talented musicians and whom I’ve built up great relationships with. Being able to have these friends to lean on when it comes to feedback, overall arrangements and recordings where my personal skills aren’t sufficient, is so, so refreshing. Just to be able to call someone up and ask them to aid with an arrangement, makes me so grateful.”

Throughout the years he’s played in lots of different bands, the most prominent one being the Swedish post-rock band Sejd, as well as the classic rock inspired band Ho Chi Minh Love Affair. Today, his focus lies in writing to other artists and for TV-shows.
